Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know what service my Honda needs?
All maintenance items will be displayed in code. There is a main-code and a sub-code. When your Maintenance Minder appears on your digital cluster, there will always be a main code and at times a sub-code. Please refer to your owner’s manual, Honda service History booklet, and the service code chart.
What is Honda's schedule maintenance?
The maintenance schedule is determined by the kilometres driven. It includes the following services under specific kilometres:
- Expect every 8K - 19K to Rotate tires, inspect for wear and adjust the pressure
- Expect every 40K - 49K to Replace air cleaner elements, replace dust and pollen filters, and inspect and adjust the drive belt
- Expect every 50K to Replace automatic transmission fluid, replace transfer case fluid (4WD Trucks)
- Expect every 95K - 109K to Replace manual transmission fluid
- Expect every 160K - 169K to Replace spark plugs, replace the timing belt, inspect the water pump (V6 only), and inspect valve clearance
- Expect every 175K - 184K to Replace engine coolant
- Expect every 15K - 24K to Replace rear differential fluid, when relevant
- Every three years to Replace the brake fluid
- Expect every 48K to Replace the engine air filter
- Expect every 16K - 19K to Service front and rear brakes, check parking brake adjustments, inspect tie rod ends, steering gear, and boots, inspect driveshaft boots, inspect brake hoses ad lines (including ABS/VSA), and check all fluid levels and conditions of fluids, and inspect fuel lines and connections .
Does 0% oil life mean no oil?
If your digital cluster shows 15% oil life, it means your service is due soon. A service is due immediately when it drops to 5% oil life. When you hit 0% oil life, the service is past due. In all three scenarios, you need to schedule your service with the nearest Honda dealer immediately.
How long can a Honda go without a service?
The maintenance varies by the driver because each driver’s driving habits are unique.
The Honda Maintenance Minder adjusts the maintenance intervals based on engine operating habits, driving habits and the climate where the vehicle is operated in. For most people who combine city and highway driving, you will need maintenance approximately once a year, if you maintain constant driving habits you can expect your mileage between services will stay consistent.
How often should a Honda get an oil change?
Honda recommends getting an oil change every 6,000 kms or six months, whichever comes first. Your own oil change schedule will depend on the date of purchase or lease and your driving history with the vehicle.
Does Honda recommend full synthetic oil?
Honda recommends using Honda Genuine Motor Oil, sold and available at Honda dealers. If Honda Genuine Motor Oil is not used, conventional motor oil of a premium grade or an ultimate full synthetic blend may be used and must contain the specified viscosity grade indicated in your Owner's Manual.
What happens if you keep driving with no oil change?
You may face complete engine failure if you go long enough without an oil change which could cost you a car. Once the motor oil becomes sludge, it no longer removes heat from the engine. This can lead to a complete engine shutdown that will require a brand-new engine – or a new ride – to fix.
Does it matter if your Honda service is late?
Honda has created a vehicle maintenance schedule so that your car keeps running in the best condition possible. In the manufacturer’s eyes, this is how you take good care of your vehicle. If you fail to follow the schedule, it may result in major repairs.
